Water Pump Pressure?

The motor is a 1997 Johnson 175 Ocean Runner. When the boat was pulled in the fall all was good, the oil was changed, and the engine was fogged. When I went to start the motor for the first time this season after changing the fuel filter, she gave a little trouble which I expected and then ran like a champ but I realized that my water pump is throwing the water like it used to. Even on thee ear muffs, she use to create a very strong water jet and now it is more like a light stream.

Does this mean that I need to replace the pump? Could there just be something stuck in there? If so, how would I clean it out?

Re: Water Pump Pressure?

Well if Im not an expert, but if its a 1997 motor and now its 2010, I would wonder when the last time the water pump was serviced if I saw any change in the norm...
You obviously have a keen eye for detail and have most likely saved yourself, excuse the pun, a boat-load-o-money..!

OK, so if I have to change it, how would I go about doing so?

Re: Water Pump Pressure?

I actually just looked up how to replace the water pump on youtube and came to realize that it is located in the bottom end, I was not aware of this before hand.

Anyway, the entire bottom end was rebuild last winter so is there still a chance that that could have gone bad? Are their any tests or tricks that I can try before pulling the whole thing apart?
