Water pump problem

I have a 75 500 mercury 50HP which has been sitting for sometime. it started right up yesterday however when i put it in water the tell tale hole doesn't "spit water" nothing it when i try to flush it out thru the copper pipe i can't get any water into it???? new water pump impeller... any ideas??? also does anyone know where the thermostat is in this unit??? thanks

put a new water pump in it befor you run it any more. and try compressed air to blow out the lines

I don't think the 70s Mercs had thermostats.<br /><br />Do as above I recon.
