Water Pump Question

Hello, I have a 1980 70hp I bought the SELOC manual. This water pump has the original pump in it. I bought the new design. The manual does not mention the pump plate (Bottom) or gasket . Do I use these ? If so does the gasket install on the bottom or inbetween the housing and plate ?
Also recomendations on a sub for sealer 1000. I have read some, still undecided.
So if someone knows for sure let me know. You will be appreciated.

Thanks John

Re: Water Pump Question

the gasket goes below plate ,and and o ring goes from houseing to plate
i use permatex 300 aviation on the gaskets nothing on the oring but i wipe them with two stroke oil if ya need something to hold th oring to houseing
use some rtv sparingly just to hold the oring in slot

Re: Water Pump Question

I agree with the gasket sealer, however on o-rings some type of grease is better. Waterproof marine grease wiped on is my choice. O-rings must be free to adapt to their enviroment in order to maintain sealing. If you use rtv or other sealers you restrict the o-rings ability to move if expansion or contraction occur as well as pressure changes.
