What are the automotive equivalents for the gasket sealer and the M type adhesive?

Do you have a Johhny/Rude dealer/mechanic near you? I like the BRP Gasket Sealing Compound with the brush built in the lid.

I'm sure there is one around but I can't imagine there is a dime worth of difference between the automotive equivalent.

Anyone?

I ordered the type M from my local Johnny/ Rude dealer and I got a tube of 3M Scotch-Grip Rubber & Gasket Adhesive # 847. That stuff is sticky but it worked great.

Marprox and M are obsolete. 3M #847 is the stuff today. The nearest automotive you will find for the BRP Gasket sealer is Aviation Permatex, the one that comes in a can with a brush. But it is NOT the same, even if only for pleasantness of use. There is also Perfect Seal #4 if you can find it. (Mercury Dealers) That's about the same as BRP.

I recently used the avaition permatex, the brown stuff with the brush in the lid, is that OK? I used it on the pump housing/plate and on the gasket when I did the thermostat replacement on a J50BELCTA. I thought people on here told me that was good stuff?

You can get 3M Scotch-Grip Rubber & Gasket Adhesive #847 from your JohnnyRude dealer or order from ishopmarine.com, part # 776964
or
pay half the price and order from McMaster-Carr or get it locally from Grainger.

I've used this and Loctite Aviation stuff. They are NOT the same. I have not had good luck with the Loctite.
