Re: water pump troubles

Look for anything that may be plugging the water flow. You could have bad seals, o rings or a bad pump case. In your first post you said no water was coming from the hole, what hole? Is the water hose going from the transom to the t- housing clear. If you have it apart you prob should change it. Looking good does not mean it is ok. Something isnt pumping water

Take out the screw on the water intakes where you put the muffs and see if there is seaweed or anything else in there preventing water from going in

The hole on the bottom of the drive. I had another mercruiser 120 just like it and it had a steady stream of water that comes out the bottom.

After you check for blockages, put it back together. Hook up the muffs and unhook the long water line from the transom to the T-stat housing at the t stat housing and see if you are getting water to that point

Ok checked for blockages by backflushing it and water come out the tube that goes down to lower foot so no blockages. I will check that this weekend Jeff.

Re: water pump troubles

Got an update. I let my friend who knows about boats at work pull the water pump apart and what I thought was a normal looking impellar was not right. The minute he pulled it out he said it was messed up. The arms were not straight and went out and made curves pretty bad at the ends. I looked at the normal impellars on iboats parts and mine looks like octopuss arms. So Monday I will go get a new impellar and that should fix it. One final question, does my mercruiser 120 1986 motor have a water pump on the engine also? I dont think so but want to make sure.
