Just wanted to thank those who gave detailed info on how to perform the job of replacing the water pump on my 115 Yammy. First time to crack open the lower is a bit unnerving - went real smooth though. I don't know whether it was the new water pump or simultaneously adjusting the pilots to 5/8 ... but this motor idles and runs like a top now. Bump started all day long like a motor of two years ago. Love it! Thanks again for the help - Spete

good job Spete.I just did a carb rebuild on my 98 inshore and it runs like new now. If your engine needs it post any questions ,it's not very difficult. Does the 98 115 have a shift rod bolt to disconnect? I'm not sure what year Yamaha started using the 2-piece shift rod.

Hey EagleB - I did the carbs about a year ago and noticed a big change too. The shift rod is one piece and didn't pose any problems. Job was real easy once I got in there. Had to rotate the driveshaft a couple of times to get the splines to line up but the shift connection never moved and went right back into place when i pushed the L/U up - bolted the whole thing up and had a cool one!
