hey i replaced my water pump and not sure all is well, the pee hole stream starts up right away wich tells me it is working but i have just a little spit out of holes on rear of motor im thinking since it became colder like 40 degrees it wiuld take longer to open thermostat but after running at fast idle for 15 minutes nothing but just a mist out of rear holes not sure if the pump is working ok or i need to take it and run it in the river to really warm it up ? it is a johnson 15 horse 1980 J15rcsd

Re: water pump

Is the mist warm or hot? I'm pretty sure that after the t'stat opens thats all you'll see is mist. AT higher rpm's the water will be redirect through the exhaust and out through the prop. How hot is the motor after 15 min.? can you touch it for a few seconds or do have to instantly pull your hand away?

Re: water pump

it is just real tuff to see when you put lower unit on that the copper water pipe goes into the rubber on the water pump, so i assume that it is correct since i have a stream out of the pee hole ?
