I have a 2001 225 mercury efi.I have noticed that my engine does not seem to have very much water coming out of the water pump indicator hole.I took it out the other day and could not see any water coming out of the hole. The engine never showed to be hot.Neither the alarm or the light came on.I had a new water pump put on 2 months ago.Any ideas? Where does the water come out if its not coming out of the hole? Also my water pressure guage shows I have pressure.

Re: water pump

Could be just a blocked 'tattle tail'. ( pee hole) Try poking a thin flexible item done it and see if it is blocked.

Re: water pump

The water that exits the tell-tale hole is only to give the operator a visual indicator that water is being pumped through the system. Most of the water used for cooling exits thru the mid-section and out the prop hub with the exhaust gases. IF all your indicators (gauges, lights, alarms) are showing everything as OK then chances are the tell-tale hole is plugged. Mud wasps like to plug these holes up for some reason. Has happened to me now 3 times in two seasons.
