i have a 1955 5.5 h.p. johnson. when i was out boating today something caught my eye. When driving my boat at low speeds my engine pumped alot of water but a full speed my engine didn,t pump as much water as at slow speeds. Is this normal or is it time for a new impeller.

How old is the water pump? could be at idle its pumping fine but as you increase speed the impeller vanes could be coulsaping and not pumping near the water it should. If its more than 2 years old its most likly time for a new one.
