Water Pump

How hard is it to change the impeller on a 1985 E40ELCOB 40 Hp motor. I was going to buy a water pump kit,Is this the way to go?
I never did it and I can do most my own work.I was wondering how long it takes to do this.

i can do it in 30-45 minutes, but have done it many times. the hardest part is getting the shift linkage disconnected and reconnected.

you have to disconect the shift rod from underneth the carbs its conected by either a bolt or you have to pull a pin and slid the conecting arm out of it then remove all the bolts from the lowerunit once off there are four bolts holding a plastic housing around the driveshaft remove and replace as you took it off. make sure you put grease on te inside of the new housing to help break in the impeller and spin the driveshaft in a clockwise turn when sliding the housing over the impeler.
