Yesterday, my friend drove my boat out to check his trotline, and when he came back, he accidentally ran ashore and the motor came out of the water. It ran out of the water for probably 5 or 6 seconds. Did this hurt it? What will I notice in the performance of the motor if the water pump is not working right? Thanks<br /><br />Brent

You don't mention any particulares, but as long as the engine did'nt overheat, it should'nt have done any damage for that short a period of time!

once i get my boat on the trailor i fire the motor up for a few seconds every time just to blow all the dirty river water out of it<br />i hate that leaking out on my garage floor as i have to put the motor down to get it all the way in the garage<br />i cant imagine running a motor out of the water for a few seconds would hurt it any<br />but then again i could be wrong <br />we all have to learn from our mistakes<br />maybe im still learning<br />haha

Brent, I'm sure it didn't hurt a thing. Mine has had that happend plenty of times and its fine. As long as it still had water coming out the tell-tale and the intakes didn't get plugged it'll be ok. I noticed in the post above this one that he runs his engine on the trailer after he takes it out of the water. DON"T DO THAT. All the water will drain out of the engine by the time you get everything stowed and tied down. Water not only cools the engine but it acts as a lubricant for the pump impeller as well. Run the engine out of the water very much and you'll burn the impeller up prematurely. It doesn't take very long.
