Water pumping problem!

I have a 65 Merc 39. You guys helped me out with it a couple of years ago, but now I have another question! When I put it in the water this year, it wasn't pumping water again. My first thought was the impeller was gone so I dropped the bottom end and the impeller was fine. My second thought was the gromet at the top of the water pipe so I pulled the motor and that was fine and when I put the hose on it it came up fine so I know thats not it! For the hell of it I put it together and started it up but it only pumped out off and on. So today I pulled the motor off and turned it upside down and put the hose on the hole and water came out of the small holes on either side of it and the large exhaust hole, but the section on the opposite side nothing was really comming out. (I hope I explained that so people know what I am talking about...lol) Should water flow through all of these areas and what could be used to clean it out? Thanks for your help!

Re: Water pumping problem!

Verify that your thermostat(s) are not stuck closed. Also, make sure that you don't have some sort of line scale ahead of the tell tale fitting that may be partially plugging it to make you think that there is insufficient water flow. You did not post that you encountered any overheat alarm indication so I assume that did not happen.

Have a good day.
