I just replaced my bearings and i am trying to find the best grease to use. I have heard someone says its best to use what was already there but i dont know what kind it is. All i can say is that it is caramel color. Can someone give me some brand names or can possibly tell me what kind i may have inside cause i preloaded my bearings with the old that was inside. I do know that water changes the color. I have a 1988 5.7l with a 280vp. Thanks.

Howdy,

What sort of bearings are you greasing? there's several to choose from behind your tow vehicle!

Any grease suitable for ball bearings is fine, it's not necessary for it to be waterproof, since water should never get into those bearings. Any grease will turn a milky color when it has water in it, even waterproof grease.

I buy the tubes of marine grease from walmart for the intermediate bearings in our Volvos. Use that for pretty much anything that has a grease zerk on my Jeep or our boats(trailers included).
