Water Sealant

Have an 85 Bayliner Capri. The storage underneath the deck, that you can lift up, the edge that is right next to the drivers seat has rotted. I cut out the rotted part, and am about ready to install the new wood. Although, I need to water seal it. I have treated greenwood already. I have Thompson's water seal, on my second coat today. Any other suggestions on how to keep it from rotting, or how many coats or anything would help out a lot!! Thanks in advance!

If you are going to cover it with carpet or it is out of sight I would go and get me a quart of liquid bed liner at wally world and coat it a couple times with it and it will seal it.<br />Then you can either paint it or cover it with carpet.

I doubt that Thompson's water seal will do much. For the new wood mix up a batch of epoxy resin and soak the wood thoroughly.<br /><br />The problem with rot is that it is caused by a fungus that starts with wet wood. Oddly enough the only thing that I have read about that will kill the fungus is regular automotive anti freeze.
