I have an 89 Sea Ray 200 with a 3.0 liter Mercruiser. I am looking to install a water separating fuel filter and can't figure out where to install it. There just doesn't seem to be any room there. If it is installed across from the fuel filter on the wall, the engine compartment cover will hit it.

I can cut the side of the cover, and attach it to the wall across from the fuel pump, and then attach the new filter to that and the piece attached will hold the engine compartment cover in place. Has anyone installed one of these on a similar engine/ boat.

I normally mount them on the transom and install new longer hoses.
