I have a canaster aparatus attached to the fuel line between my gas tank and 1994 225 Johnny. It's about the size of an oil filter. Is it an in line gas filter or could it be a fuel/water seperator? I tried getting it loose, but it doesn't turn either way and there are no nuts on top of it to remove the canister. Can anyone tell me what it is and if it needs to be replaced and how to do it?
Stalker

You have the best type to use. It is a fuel filter/water seperator combined. They look like auto oil filters and are installed and removed the same way. You may have to muscle the old one off & be sure to put a dab of oil on the gasket when installing the new - - - & don't overtighten.

Use a regular oil filter strap wrench to get it off and replace it with the same type filter you have now...

Counterclockwise, by the way... And only hand tighten it when you put it back on as Solittle said. Just like your cars oil filter...

It is a good idea to consider replacing that filter as part of your annual maintenance. There is a replacement filter available with a see-thru bowl at the bottom to keep tabs on any water intrusion into the fuel system.

When you replace the cannister fuel filter, you can save yourself a little aggrivation by pre-filling it with fuel (w/proper oil mix if applicable, of course). Saves the fuel pump from having to fill it up before the fuel gets to the engine.

Or just fill it up wth the primer bulb if it's before the filter..

The primer bulb will fill it even if its after the filter. It's still part of the sealed fuel line. It just takes a little while to draw up the half quart that the filter holds.

Yea - it's NBD, but it does work a little slicker if you just fill it up before screwing into place.
