I've tried the search function, but no luck, Is it ok to use a water seperator/filter on 2strokes that are premix? or will the filter basically pull the oil outta the gas. I've heard it will but just want a right answer

Thanks

RM

Re: Water Seperator

The filters remove water and particulates from either straight gas or premix. They will not remove oil from premix.

In my opinion a water seperating filter is an absolute requirement for any fuel injected engine, 2 stroke or 4 stroke, and a very good idea on any engine.

Moving to General Outboard

Good luck. :)

Re: Water Seperator

I personally require a f/w seperator on ANY boat I have ever owned.Except my zodiac which gets a fresh portable tank of fuel each time I use it.A seperator cannot do any harm in any application.Charlie

the racor ones made for marine use state on the filter it will not filter the oil out. get the one with the plastic bowl on the bottom. you can see when it has water and drain it.

Last months Trailer Boats magazine had a good test report on the different spin on fuel-water separators.

They will not "pull" the oil from the fuel. Up to a point the filters will contain water, but when overloaded, all filters will pass water on to the motor.
