Took some friends of my sons out today. One of the girls was 95lbs, dripping wet and my O my how that 95 lbs was constructed.:D (now, now, she is 22 y/o:p) But oh, that is all beside the point. It was quickly apparent that my WideBody single was a lot like the tail wagging the dog. As soon as I recognize this, I pulled the plug on teaching her. I did not want to unnecessarily frustrate her.

Anyone with ski length experience for waifish women? I googled the subject and saw size recomendations for 63-66 inches in her weight range. That is a fair spread. There are also lots of junior trainer sets that are in the mid 50 inches and state weight ranges well above her 95 lb. Even though she is a beginner, I do not think those jr training sizes would be good.

What say you all?

Re: Water ski length?

is this girl a complete beginner, why would you consider a wide body single for a beginner? my pair of training skis were 8 inches wide, 66 inches long, complete flat bottom, with just the tip turned up. a 1 1/2 inch skeg. they learned very quickly, as they had loads of surface to plane on. did not have to go over 18 mph, and scare them to death with speed.

Re: Water ski length?

How tall is she?

Good question Aldo, I think she is just past my belly button.:p:D Oh, and cute as a bug too!

My best guess is about 53".

BTW, my Connoley Wide body is only 63" but it is massive and you could see that it was trying float away with her.

In contrast my trusty old Maharajah is 67" and I am 72 1/2" @ 190 lbs.

Proportionately, that is making these 54" training skis sound more in line.

...... is this girl a complete beginner, FOR ALL INTENTS AND PURPOSES. why would you consider a wide body single for a beginner? 'CAUSE THAT IS ALL I HAPPENED TO HAVE ON HAND. MY FAITHFULL OLD MAHARAJA 69" WOOD SKI IS DOWN FOR REFINISHING.:p my pair of training skis ~~~~~~~ complete flat bottom, IMHO, FLAT BOTTOM SKIS ARE NOT GOOD FOR BEGINNERS. I THINK THEY ARE ONLY FLAT ON THE BOTTOME FOR ECONOMIC REASONS with just the tip turned up. a 1 1/2 inch skeg. they learned very quickly, as they had loads of surface to plane on. did not have to go over 18 mph, and scare them to death with speed.DITTO ON THAT. AND NOW, LET'S HEAR THE DRUMS ROLL; WITH SMART TABS AND A BOAT LOAD OF PEOPLE, I CAN STAY ON PLANE WITH BOW DOWN AT ABOUT 15 MPH

How do you know my name?

Although she is an adult, she has the physique of a young teenager. I would suggest mild concave training skiis until she is competent enough to tackle something more flighty. I am also from the old school - ski length equal to persons height.

Now, onto more important matters - got any pics;) ?

Yeah, that is the conclusion that I have been coming to. I found these on ebay. They are 58" Jr skis. A little bit taller than she is but I would get more use out of them. They are rated for up to 125 lbs. They never talk about height, but I think they should.

Also, you have a PM
