The rubber backed snap-in carpet in my boat got soaked this weekend when a large wake broke over the bow. When I got home this evening, I pulled out all of the carpet to let it dry out. Was this necessary? I just didn't like the possibility of water trapped between the rubber backing and fiberglass boat floor creating a smelly mess.

Drying things out is always a good idea. Even if no other reason then the smelly one you mentioned. Especially if you cover your boat!

ezmobee hit the nail on the head. I don't know if it would have been needed or not but I would have down the same thing. I would think over time it would just invite mold and mildrew growth. And if you cover your boat, it just makes it that much worse!

For what it is worth, I think you made the right decision!

That is one of the primary reasons to have snap in/out carpet. You absolutely did the right thing.
