Hi all,
I have a Yamaha 140B (1989) outboard motor. When running the engine in sea, water is spraying out from the top of the shift rod tube (see video link: https://adobe.ly/4d9jnkH).
The cooling water pressure otherwise seems normal and the engine is not overheating, but the spray from that area looks unusual and quite strong.
Has anyone experienced this before? What is the most likely cause — shift rod seal/grommet, water pump issue, or something else in the lower unit? How can the water get into the tube with so high pressure?
Any advice on where to start checking would be appreciated.
