I have a 1977 55 horse evinrude, when running on muffs and slow on lake no water comes from the two slots on the rear. The impeller seems soft to the touch, I know a new one can't hurt, but should I look elsewhere while the lower unit is off. The head never got too hot to touch, just no water.<br />By the way,<br /><br />I have a 1972 50 horse that only sprays while underway at moderate speeds.<br /><br />Is this the norm? Do your motor a favor and replace the pump.<br /><br />Each motor seems to have it's own personality. Many will emit a spray on the muffs and others will have a full flow. Under way at rpm the flow is much higher. Not to worry unless it is getting hot - replace the pump anyway - cheap insurance against a meltdown.
