I got my 1993 20ft Stringray (bowrider)with a 4.3L Merc back on the water and everything is running good except my water temp gauge is not working?

What is the best way to troubleshoot this?

Thanks for all the help!!

Re: Water Temp Gauge

Locate the sender, disconnect the wire and ground it, gauge should go full scale.
Remove sender and any tef-lon tape , reinstall.check for a temp reading , confirm with a infrared temp reader. Sometimes people simply replace the therm gasket not knowing what the 4 brass grommets are there for. They help ground the housing to the block .without a good ground the sender wont operate.

Continuing the good Dr.s line of thought:

If the gauge peg's when you ground the wire, and the sender hasn't been installed with tape, replace the sender.

If the gauge doesn't peg. Ground the "S" terminal right on the back of the gauge. If it peg's your trouble is wiring. If it doesn't peg, and you have power to the "I" terminal of the gauge, replace the gauge.
