I have a 1965 model MERC 1000 (100hp). I pulled of the lower unit toreplace the water pump inpeller and the water tube pulled lose on the top end (from power head) instead of coming apart at the water pump housing. When I reassembeled the lower unit (being careful to reinsert the tube into the hole in the head) and started the motoe water was leaking from the bottom of the cowl inmstead of the from the tell tale.

Am I missing some seals on the top end of the tube?

Do I have to take the cylinder block off to replace the seals?

How do I remove the drive shaft housing?

I have manuals and parts lists but there doesn't seem to be much info on the top end of the tube.

Any help would be appreciated...........

Re: water tube pulled out of power head

Water tube is probably not connected correctly. Pull your lower unit back off. If the tube comes out with the lower unit, no problem. Pull it out of the impeller housing and re-install it into the power head first, then guide it back into your impeller housing as you reinstall the lower unit. I have a 1970 and there are no seals. Just need to seat that tube in there as far as it will go.

Re: water tube pulled out of power head

I have a question:
Does the tapered end go in the water pump or the power head?
