Water tube stuck

I'm having troubles with the flow of water thru the engine at low rpm. The water pump appears to be clean and in good shape. water pees out at high rpm but not low. the water appears to be leaking from the water tube as it goes up the leg and I can't seem to pull the tube out from the bottom. Whats holding it in? I thought it was just pushed into a gromet.

Re: Water tube stuck

First rule of thumb when talking about the water pump is, if in doubt replace it. You really can't "see" if it's in good condition or not and they are inexpensive and easy to replace.

If the impeller is more then a couple years old they take on a "set" and become inefficient. If there is ANY signs of wear in the wear plate or cup insert you have to replace them as well as the impeller. Even the slightest scratches or groves have a big affect on performance.

You are correct in your assumption of how the water tube is held in place. There could possibly be some corrosion holding the tube in place. Try twisting it to break it free before pulling on it.

Re: Water tube stuck

Thanks Commander, I'm getting a whole new waterpump kit coming! I think I'll leave the tube inplace for now and see what happens after I put the new pump in. Is all the water that the pump pumps supposed to come out the "pee hole" or does some of it get pumped out someplace else? The reason I ask is that the water tube diameter seems much bigger than the "pee hole".

Re: Water tube stuck

The water is pumped into the powerhead by the waterpump. Water then circulates through the cooling passages withing the powerhead and is expelled out of the powerhead with the exhaust gases into the exhaust tube. The majority of cooling water is expelled out through the prop hub (thru hub exhaust) and some through the pressure relief ports just below the powerhead when at idle. At the same time, a little water is diverted from the cooling system to be expelled through the tell-tale. The only purpose of the tell-tale is to provide an indication the water is circulating in the system. You can plug it completely and not effect the cooling system.

A weak tell-tale indicates poor water flow OR an obstructed tell-tale line.
