waterlogged foam

i just now purchesed a 16ft avalon glaspar but i discovered that the foam in the hull is waterlogged i am in need of ways to dry it out, is there anyone who that knows how to fix this?

99% you are going to have to remove the deck and wet foam, and re do.

Charlie, Rip out the waterlogged foam and replace it with new foam. You will spend your entire life waiting for it to dry out, it if ever does.


You can purchase a two part foam mix, that is mixed together and poured into the cavity. This will form a new improved waterproof foam

I had a 1960 Glasspar Avalon 16 and the floor was completely sealed with no penetrations to allow water into the floatation chamber between the floor and the hull. The chamber had a garboard-type drain but mine was always dry. It was a great boat for fishing and skiing. Good luck with yours!

Ayuh,......... Unfortunately,..... Your Not going to like Either of your Options......

Option #1,.......Sell it,+ Try to get your Money back out of it,......

Option #2,....... Seperate the Inner hull, from the Outer hull,..... Dig out All of the saturated Foam,..... Then figure out just How you can refill the area with New Foam.........


Due to the Work involved,+ the Impossibility of getting the Foam back into place,.........
Option #2 Really Isn't an option At All,.. in My book.........

I see Option #1 as the Only answer to your Question,..........
'cause as noted by Chris,........It'll Never, Ever, Dry Out..............

Personally, if I have water logged foam I plan to cut a few access holes under the seats and pull out as much as I can. The rest can just stay. I will find out in the spring when I get under there to take a look at it.
It's kinda silly to split the boat. If I had to I would just cut the floor away and after removing the foam cover it up with green treated plywood. Cover that with some indoor outdoor carpet or some kind of mat, and gf course it depends on if your floor is soft and how rotten the stringers are.


Now if your doing a restoration and want it to be perfect that's different.
