I just installed a new water pump kit in my 1995 bayliner capri 1954, 3.0 I/O Alpha One Gen 2,, P/N of the kit is 47-43026Q06 Quicksilver... I'm down to three seals that I don't know where they go,, two are yellow and actually look like metal washers,, and one is small and red (I actually put it on the drain plug), not sure if that's where it goes but it fit..

Many of Mercs kits have parts that you won't use. They are built up as a generic kit to suit a wide range of engines. That way Merc can keep the price of the kit down as they don't have to carry such a diverse range, just a 'one kit fits all' type setup. Best thing to do with the extras? Round filing system.

The two yellow ones are drain plug gaskets and the small red one goes on the oil transfer hole between the upper and lower units. If you have that red one on the drain plug, it will leak.

Thanks,, all back together now, one last question.. On the trailing edge where the lower unit bolts on thers's some sore to trim tab,, kind of looks like a triangle and has one large bolt that holds it on.. The manual says to mark the position of it before you unbolt it,, which I did.. My question is should I put it back on the way it was (about an inch to the left of center), or center it up?????

That is a trim tab. It helps in keeping the boat going straight and cancels propeller torque.

Put it back where it was.

Thats what i figured, Thanks.. One last and final waterpump question before I slam this outdrive back on. On the outlet for the waterpump there is an adapter that connects the two tubes (has the two orange o rings inside it), anyway if you remove this adapter there is a piece of plastic (tube)that slides over the metal tube (mine is almost yellow in color), mine also is all warped and appears to have gotten very hot at some time. That plastic tube appears to have no purpose other than to slide back and forth and do nothing... Does this have to be there???

Ayuh,......

That Plastic Tube is used to help Aligning everything during Reassembley.....

Are you saying the Plastic Alignment Tube is Burnt,+ Twisted,...
Or the Copper Tube that moves the water to your Motor,..??..??...

Hey,, the plastic tube is deformed and looks like someone took a torch to it, it would make sense that it would be used for alignment. I pulled it and threw it away... Thanks.

Assuming you are talking about the alignment tube ( #31), they get warped and burned like that when there is a lack of water in the exhaust passage in the drive. Which is probably why you are replacing the impeller. Blocked cooling passages in the exhaust risers or manifolds can also cause it.
Normally a new one comes in the kit.

Nope one didn't come in the kit. Actually the first time I put the two halves together I took it back apart because it went together TOO EASY.. I figured something must be wrong here.. Don't really see a need for that alignment tube but it would'nt be the first time I was wrong.. Thanks..

Don, I have not seen that tube come in the kit with a floppy vane pump (have seen it in the old HPLV kits).

Broke....you will need to get a new tube.... better to be safe than sorry....that tube assures that you align the water tube properly.
