Hi all.

During rebuild of my waterpump on above mentioned engine i have stumbled upon something odd.

My EPC Exploded view pic. shows that there should be a gasket BELOW the waterpump base (bottom half of pump assembly.) between the pump and the lower leg.

My problem is that i just cant see how it would ever seal anything, since the cast is raised slightly(approx. 1mm) around the three studs holding the pump body in place.
I am pretty shure that it should be so (i.e not corrosion or anything else) since the surface is very smooth and the raised section is uniform in size around the three studs.

Can anybody confirm weather the gasket should be there or not?
As a note the gasket is also missing in the gasket kit that i bought for the rebuild.

The gasket underneath the pump body doesn't seal the oil-containing part of the lower unit. That's done by the driveshaft seals and an O-ring around the rounded part of the lower pump body which inserts into the driveshaft cavity.

The gasket is supposed to seal the pump base to the cavity (plenum) on the water intake side of the lower unit, so that the pump can draw suction from the intake.

Part # 27-19552 near as I can figure without knowing your specific Ser. #.

Be sure to confirm your Ser # vs. the parts illustration. You might try looking it up here to make sure you get the same results:
