Hi there just a quick question is there a water shutter or something to that effect that goes on a 280 to prevent water from backing up into the engine? if so where is it located on the engine or drive. thanks

Where did you find that part number, sounds like the wrong number to me.

I think that first part was the 270 or 275 housing and flapper.

Your 280 will have a horizontal oval shaped exhaust outlet like the 290 style. The 280 outlet flapper was a production item only and couldn't be bought over the counter. The 290 flapper can be made to work if you don't like the idea of the flapper in the bellows. Looks too restrictive for me. Takes a bit grinding the hump down on the 280 and you have to drill the holes for it, but it will work.
The outlet flapper would be out in the open where you can inspect it.

Or you could use the right bellows and be happy for the next 10 to 15 years.

I don't disagree, Don, but ill bet that you and I have both seen these bellow flappers come apart.

Only after overheats, or many many years of use. I have also replaced a bunch that the bellows was shot but the flappers still good.
