Re: Wax/polish suggestion for a boat

I saw the magazine article, and it has the Meguiar's stuff as top of the heap!!

Cheers

Not the impression that I got from looking at the review on-line at http://www.boatingmag.com/maintenance/boat cleaning and care/boatinglab-tests-waxes?page=0,0

The Meg's scored 13 which was the highest score of the bunch - unless the web article only mentioned a sub-set of the full article. Would have liked to see a couple of other waxes compared too.

I generally really like ALL the Meg's stuff. They seem like a great company who is on the edge of the industry.

SORRY - I see others had the same observation. I would bet the magazine version was more comprehensive.

That article is not worth the paper it’s printed on. A test of waxes that doesn’t include durability is a farce.

Agree; even though I use Meguiar's Flagship myself I would not use that article as justification for why I use it - it only compares a few products and it was a short term test only.

I use the stuff cause its easy to apply and remove, produces a nice gloss, and is widely available and not ridiculously priced like some products. There are probably a bunch of other products I could use that I would be just as happy with, but I started with Meguiars and its never gave me a reason not to use it, so I just keep using it.

ditto about article!!! how hard it is to wash the boat one or twice to simulate 'use'....then perform the test again????

Any product that you don't have to buff off much is a product i will use (syn wax, spray wax, 303). cause its quick/easy which means i will use it more....which means a protected gelcoat. Something that is a pain to put on/off will mean procrastination between applications equaling oxidation. Resulting in some other measures i don't want to do (cleaner waxes, polishes, etc)

NuFinish works as well as any.

It actually lasts alot longer than any traditional marine wax I have used on my boats. Ive got firsthad experience with both 3M and Meguires waxes - NuFinish is superior by far.

I've used both the Meguiars products and the Buff Magic. Both gave good results. I even used the buff magic on my fiberglass shower enclosure with good results!!
