Wax the hull .... or dont bother?

Just wondering if applying a layer of wax to the waterline area of the boat would be worthwhile task to do? Basically, everything below the rub-rail.

My idea is that the wax would make the boat slide across the water that little bit easier and it may even help with washing off all the marine organisms in the fall when the boat comes out of the water. Boat is only going to be run on fresh water inland waterways.

Right now the boat is stored on wood blocks in a shed (at the marina), so I have ample room to crawl under and wax almost 100% of the hull area.

Feel free to chime in and let me know :D

"Wax her up buttercup"
Does stop the green crud from growing there quite as quickly and also looks better. Not as good as anti fouling paint in my opinion but certainly worthwhile. My hull is waxed only and i power wash it a couple of times during the season when we pull out of the dock to go on vacation to another lake !!!!!

I use EASY ON coating. It looks like dried wax when on the boat but I only put it on a couple inches above waterline and below. Absolutely no growth on bottom just light green staining which can be remove with pressure washer or spray on hull cleaner. This was much better than other boats I saw coming out of the water! Lasts all season without mid-season maintenance.

that's a real judgement call. repeated uses washes the wax off so it's only gonna last so long anyway. also, not that you're going to be timing yourself, wax slows a hull down. it's very grabby so far as the water is concerned. a light sanding will roughen the surface so that water can't grab the hull as easily...not that you'd want to do that.

i think time on the trailer is more harmful than time in the water. keep it covered when not in use. my next cover will almost fully enclose the hull to keep the sun off the sides when on the trailer.

i don't wax very often.
