WAY TO GO,12FOOTER. DON'T EVER LOOK UP WHEN YOU'RE PECKIN KEYS!!! I meant "Saltwater -Cooled engines"....

About a year ago, I went fishing. I didn't catch anything, but found two submerged motors. I went back and picked them up. THey werent worth much, but did have some salvagelable parts. I had one of them in a wheel barrow, awaiting teardown, and decided to spray some WD40 all over it (to start the bolt loosening process). I went back there two days later to spray some more on it, and to my amazement, the stuff ATE the aluminum oxides off the motor's surface.
I removed the head and exaust port plate, and found out why they tossed these engines.
The water curcuit was completely plugged with oxides and cryltalized salt. I sprayed some 40 all over the manifold area....
Again,to my suprise, it devoured this stuff to the metal!!!!
I mention all of this in an effort to assist all of my salt water bretheren out there with a port plugging problem. Every time I come back from slatwater, I flush the engine, then I remove the T-stat. I then duct tape over the water pickup, and spray WD40 into the housing until it backs up. I let it sit for about an hour, then remove the tape. After doing this for the entire summer, it came time for my anual impeller change-out (done whether it needs it or not).
I removed the exaust port plate also, to examine the buildup..None! Not only that, but the surfaces were coated with what looked like clearcoat. I really think it works better than Salt-X, but then,I've never used Salt-X. It's too expensive. But treating my engine with WD40 figures-out to an average cost of 50cents per trip (half can).
Just thought you'd like to know, and no, I don't own WD40 stock. but when I find something that works, I pass it on.

Hmmm. Maybe we all oughta get some WD-40 stock. Is there anything it can't do??

Thanks for the scoop, 12Footer. I've got a couple of Al castings covered with that white oxidation that I can't get at with a steel brush. Tomorrow, they get the treatment!

Red sky at night. . .

JB :)

WD-40 is an amazing product. Best and safest starting fluid there is, great fishing lure enhanser, it cleans, it loosens but is a lousy lubricant. I won't be without a can both in the boat and the shop.

hey fellow greasers, if you are a lure fisherman, hit you lures after a day of fishing with the WD. Also a light spray keeps the reels in pretty good shape.

You probably know this already, but we use WD40 for removing any sticky residue.Boat decals for example.

Can't wait for WD41 to come out.

Mix it with two parts Gin and you have a smashing winter coctail too !
