So we finally sold our little 12ft fishing boat that we have many fond memories of and are now looking for something a tad bigger. Our family of four (two kids 12 & 14) enjoy tubing and fishing. Our choices are mainly open or closed bow and in/outboard configuration. Boats right now on our radar are a Chriscraft closed bow with in board, a Canaventure open bow and a vangard open bow both with out boards.

Re: We are looking for....

Where do you live and where will you be boating?
Will you be trailering the boat or keeping it in a slip?
What tow vehicle are you planning on using if trailering?

Located in the prairies and will be mainly using it in lakes situated in Saskatchewan, BC and Alberta, Fishing for smaller fish, jacks, pickerel etc. Have GMC 2500 Ford F350 and Ford Escape as tow vehicle.

Re: We are looking for....

17' center console outboard (look at Scout, Sea Hunt on line for examples of the design)
or old 16' aluminum starcraft outboard, dual console.
or 17' whaler with an outboard.
16' J series Carolina Skiff with an outboard.

I'm sticking wth your "tad bigger" than 12'.

No bow riders, no carpet, no I/O.

Looking at 1986 18.5ft Chris Craft Cavalier with 140hp mercruiser inboard. Closed Bow Seats 6 plus has 3 seats at the bow which make up a bed.

So just to throw my .02c in-
For a family of 4 that will just do day trips in good weather any of the boats you mentioned will be great, "BUT" if you are going to do some boat camping especialy if your going to drag it out here to BC you should look for a cuddy cabin with a camper top.

Lets face it rainy, cold and windy conditions kick the crud out of a family outing.
