Scott McCulloch 1959 40HP model 336A.

Had a mechanic look at it cause I had no spark. He cleaned and reset the points, said he was getting very weak spark probably not enough to run it. His opinion was either the coils or magnets in the flywheel were bad.

The "big" coils are Wico X11352 and the little ones are Wico X11710. I googled and cant come up with anything. Is there a direct replacement for these?

Also, I have a multimeter, dont know much about it, but can I use it to test these coils to see if they are good? If so, how?

Secondly, do the magnets in a flywheel really go bad? I thought magnets were pretty much magnets.

Re: Weak Spark

Magnets can become weak most common would be if it was dropped or heated with a torch. Pretty easy to check; a screwdriver should be drawn to it strongly if you just feel a gentle tug its weak. Check with the scott guy at "ask the scott guy".
