Today when i started my Lark, it was just so weak, battery was fully charged. Wires contacts where clean too. I have a 2010 deep cycle battery too. Is it my starter that is about to break? It did it also the last day i used it. I do use the manual choke on cold starts. It a while to start too. Do i have to give throttle when in choke position?

Where could i get parts for the starter I am pretty sure it's the brushes to be replace.

Thanks for helping me!

I am not 100% sure it's the brushes. Can I bring my starter to any starter/alternator rebuilt shop? Just a set of brushes, it's 49$ on Boat.net.

Seen too many do this and it was all due to bad grounds. I would pull the starter and remove it from its mount bracket. Clean the mating surface where the two contact each other. On that motor, I believe there are 3 different motor grounds. The quick disconnect, the starter motor to frame, and an engine point to exhaust housing ground. Usually this is connection can be found somewhere around the lower front pan.

Why would you use a deep cycle battery as a starting battery? Totally the wrong use for such a battery.

The motor generator is not working thats why I use a deep cycle battery. Missing the belt and the pulley, previous owner said it fried up. I have a radio, fishfinder and also lights when boating at night relied to the same battery a regular starting battery would not last long. And VERY VERY important, electric shifts lower units needs 12V.

After you check your ground connections and if the problem still exists, pull the starter and clean it really well. I had the same problem last week with my 40 hp '63 Gale. I cleaned it, sanded the armature (120 grit) then lubed it with white lithium and getting more power now when before it couldn't turn it a full turn. Unfortunately, the armature is pitted beyond sanding and I have to replace it anyway. Hopefully yours won't be so bad.
