Re: Weather SUCKS this year.....

No different on Long Island- tough winter and non-existent Spring so far. High winds, lotsa rain, cold temps. The marina finally got to uncover my boat last Saturday, but I'm still a week or two from splashdown. Everybody around here is in the same situation.

Galling for me because I missed most of last Summer, which was one of the nicest we'd had in several years. Virtually every weekend was gorgeous, but I was sidelined with illness for several weekends, then another 3 due to mechanical difficulties (the boat's, not mine)

damn.

I hate to be the party pooper....but;

It's been 88-90 for 3 weeks straight and we have seen rain, nor much wind, since Noah stopped by.
It's perfect for the boat, even though it's a tad dry. Matter of fact, the water in the Gulf has already
passed 80 degrees.

Just thought you'd all want to feel my "pain"......<snicker>

agreed. this spring has been a bummer for boating weather. i've been out 4 times. high winds and cool temps ea. time. low 60's. the winds really make it cold out. on the + side for me. my nineteen can go full enclosed. much better than being exposed for sure.
i got blowed out 2 weekends ago. wanted to get out bad. sustained winds of 35 mph gust to 51 kept me away...

a very windy season for sure...

keep having to drain my block and manifold too. just when i think it's gonna start getting better. near freezing temps get forecast. freezing has occurred here too. darned crazy weather.

Re: Weather SUCKS this year.....

I'm hoping it clears up I made reservations to go to summersville for the labor day weekend. I plan on hitting summersville and burnsville and just might get over to stonewall jackson. I used to hunt there before they flooded it. I called the corp after talking to the guy at summersville marina. they are raising the lake 2 ft per day because the Mississippi and Ohio rivers can't take any more water. He told me they were expecting to have to raise it 20 ft above summer pool. the lady at the corp told me that summersville was the only lake affected in that area. She said that burnsville and stonewall jackson were running normal. here locally RD bailey lake is holding back water as well because of all the rain. the parking lot is under water.

I was hoping to at least take the boat out for a shake down this weekend before our trip but they have just revised our 10 day outlook to rain every blasted day except the 5th....and no end until the 13th. Guess we will be fishing in brown water for the most part. Probably getting rained on too. Guess it could be worse, but was really looking forward to some early fishing to make up for last year's late start.

Problem with Summersville is with storms you get so much debris from the trees it is crazy. We normally camp there 1-2 times a year and night fish. At least it should not be muddy as it is a rock bottom lake. I was up there in June of last year and a sudden thunderstorm dumped TONS of tree branches in the water as well as logs. The DNR was doing their best to contain them but it made getting boats into the water a pain as the logs and other parts usually found their way to the ramps.

February gave us a record breaking freeze with dead plants and trees along with frozen and broken water pipes all over the place. March was relatively calm, but we had high winds all through April. On top of that, we haven't had any rain since the third of February. I love living in the desert southwest but enough is enough already! I'm ready for the wind to go away and the rainy season to start.

Re: Weather SUCKS this year.....

Wow, Catfish that was interesting.....We wanted to ro to RD Bailey for our vacation in early June, as we have gotten burned out a bit on Summersville. Maybe things will clear up but I have a feeling if we get to go at all it most likley be Stonewall. Our plans keep changing anyway, so may be a stay at home vacation, lol. At least we have a couple of 250-270 acre lakes to use on the weekends that are about 30 miles away. I Woodrums is usually clear regardless of rain(a little more remote and harder access) and MAYBE Elk Fork will get somewhat clearer. If you have never been to either of those they have decent bass, crappie, and channell cats. We noticed once we got our boat our cat fishing improved quite a bit over fishing from the banks there. Elk Fork is near Ripley, Woodrums is near Goldtown. Small lakes but plenty of fish.

RD is a joke anymore and since the marina is gone there is no security up there. so when you launch and park your truck its in a bad spot. lots of druggies up there not to far from the launch ramp. I wouldn't leave my truck alone there. thats one of the main reasons I quit going up there. that and the lake is always full of garbage and floating trees

Yes, we like Burnsville very much. Problem was we had no boat until last year and fishing from the banks there can be tough...although we did catch some nice crappie from our campsite 2 years ago. Wife and me want to take the boat there sometime soon, as you can catch fish there and you are close to other places. We took one day and went to Stonewall and Stonecoal lakes and then fished from our campsite there that evening. Thanks for the heads up on RD Bailey....we had just ran across pics of it and though maybe that would be a different place to go.
I have seen boaters up Burnsville bring back loads of crappie. Not sure about catfish though.
