Has anyone installed the Redline Weber conversion kit on your 3.0 Mercruiser?

I have a 1989 Winner Intrigue that I am thinking about installing this in. it currently has a Mercarb and never has run right even after I took it to a Mercruiser mechanic and had him rebuild it.

I am looking for feed back from those of you who use this setup.

Actually this conversion kit is Coast Guard approved. Please don't post information as speculation or sarcasm. This is your second post to this thread and in both cases you have not offered anything constructive on a subject you are unfamiliar with. Do some good for this forum and don't be so negative only because you can!

I started this thread to get feedback from those who have either used this kit or know of any who have in order to research whether or not I want to invest $500+ on it.

:D.........Umm you may want to rephrase that.....Bond-o does a lot of good for people and not just here, he's just a little direct..;)..........Opp's welcome to i-boat's, chill a little would ya..

It's not an auto carb (as has been stated). Redline is effectivly who has the rights to supply and/or manufacture Weber carbs in the US. Webers are quite common on marine applications. They are fairly simple and reliable; it should work great as long as the carb is the problem.

The kit looks very good. It's marked as being Coast Guard approved, and it comes with a flame arrestor and everything else you should need for a marine application. Seems like a good deal. Of course, it might not give you the stunning performance of a Mercarb. . .

On a 3.0 engine just how much of a performance upgrade do you expect?
Probably won't tell a difference.Want performance put a 4.3 in it with a 4bbl..unless you like throwing useless parts at it.

I wasn't really expecting a performance boost. I just want my boat to run.

I think if you look at service manuals Or pictures of 3.0 motors :D

You will find that the throttle cable has been connected in to many different was to count

If this carb is not exactly the same as your current one the holes will not be in the correct place to bolt up the throttle cable which can turn into a BIG PITA

Vs just buying the correct model that will bolt in place and all your old stuff will fit it correctly

Even looking at there flame arrestor which is taller than the std merc could be a clearance problem in many motor houseings

If you had the carb rebuilt and it still does not run right have you considered other problems? Tune up,timing set, compression test,plugs,wires.....along with about 100 other things..
Was the idle mixture set correct after all the tune up things were checked?

Or, alternatively, anyone cursed with a Mercarb must continue to use the Mercarb as punishment for buying a boat with a 3.0? Come on! Weber makes carb kits to fit lots of applications. There's a Redline kit for Jeeps, and there's this one, which is for the Mercruiser 3.0. It's not a Jeep carb. It's set up for marine applications. Throttle cable placement? On my 3.0 it requires a housing stop "somewhere" and a cable anchor "somewhere else." That's not really that difficult to work around. As to the flame arrestor height, it looks to me like the carb itself has a lower body than the Mercarb. I know this guy went off on Bond-O for no reason, which is hard to forgive, but can we quit with the attitude already? All he wants to know is whether anyone on the forum has installed the kit, and whether it worked well. Not whether his engine is big enough.

Hey...maybe you should get one too! I see in your Avator that your boat has run aground. Did you have to beach it to work on the carb?? :D

Nope! My boat runs great. I don't hack at it with any part i can think of.
Have you ever read a factory service manual?

Re: Weber Carburetor Conversion Kit for 3.0L Mercruiser

Nothing wrong with Weber carburetors. I did a conversion on a Volvo once, after the SU carbs on it wore out.

Still, it's not a panacea, nor will it do anything for performance, frankly. If your carb is bad, and you're sure it's bad, a conversion that's designed for your engine won't do any harm, but neither will getting a replacement original carb.

Do what you want. If the conversion is properly designed, it'll work fine, but I'd try to contact some folks who have done it for their feedback.

You might want to wait a bit here before you start trashing the advice folks give you here. There's tons of experience here on iboats. You ask a question...someone gives you advice. Most often, if the person giving it has over 1000 posts, it's good advice.

A little less sarcasm will probably serve you well here. These folks are donating their time and advice. Say thanks.
