I have a two cycle weed Eater gas trimmer. It runs decent but when it sits between uses, it gets black liquidy gunk on whatever its sitting on that runs out of the motor somewhere. I have it on a bucket now but just wondering if something is wrong with it or if it's normal. I do mix the gas.

That's normal, Bobbo.

Try fresh primo gas and use a good 2stroke oil, and watch your mix as it sounds like your oil rich.

What gas/oil mixture/ratio does it call for your machine in the owners manual.

says 40:1 on the website and thats what I've been using... So if you guys have the same thing, what do you from getting black crap all over everything in your garage? Just the bucket remedy as well?

I run 50:1 with tcw3 in all my 2 strokes. anything more oil rich dosant run as good, smokes, and drips unburnt oil.

I pump the gas stright out of my boat tank!

TCW3 is not for use in all 2 strokes, only watercooled outboards, it's not formulated for the higher RPM's and hotter running that is typical of air cooled engines. For longer life do not use it.

One of the things I REALLY like about my 4 stroke string trimmer. It's super quiet, has a ton of low rpm torque for cutting through dense growth and if it rubs up against your clothes, you don't get oil stains...

My 4 stroke Shindaiwa trimmer still requires you to use 50:1.

Known as a 4 Mix motor ( originally dubbed by Stihl ).. They are an actual 4 stroke motor but have no internal oil reservoir. Some 4 stroke trimmers do have a crankcase fill for oil.

Yes...its a hybrid. I actually prefer it that way than having a crankcase.

The hybrids are like an el Camino to me;the lousy car that makes an even lousier truck. One of the primary reasons for me originally getting a 4 stroke was to eliminate mixing.

I am curious if you have used one?

I would rather have a 4 stroke engine where I didn't have a crankcase to have to change, not worry about what angle to have to store it in...

Nope haven't used one. Mixing is a deal killer for me now. Apparently you haven't owned one like mine either. No need to store in a particular position although they all store best hanging. Haven't changed the crankcase oil in it over 3 years now. Probably next spring but it's hardly any oil and still looks pristine.

I actually do at one of my other houses. Manual says to change every 30 hours. Mine says to store the trimmer horizontal if possible and second choice is vertical.
