The NY Giants did well to beat the Carolina Panthers this afternoon. Eli was cool and passed well. Receivers bobbled alot of attempts leading to turnovers. Nicks was on fire near the end zone! The defense was working hard and stopped the running game and pressured the passer into many errors, especially in the red zone. I'd like to see a more consistant running game and some work on special teams. Happy to have one under the belt!

How did your team do?

Watching my 9ers right now. They're dominating both off & def, but the score would dictate differently. now 2nd Q, behind SEA 7-6, but they have the ball.
Got NFL Sunday Ticket this year:)

Very disappointed in my Bears. The O-line still sucks, the O in general still needs too much improvement, and Lovie should be fired for not kicking a FG when we were 4th/goal, down by 1. Even though I dislike the Lions, they should have had that late TD, that was a BS call.
Forte does look good this year though!

Steelers weren't pretty, but they won! yea!!! (and the Browns and Bengals lost.) If the Jets can backup their smack talk, then the universe will be all right for one week!

It was great to see the Patriots win the first game. I expect there isn't alot of love
for Tommy-boy, around here, but thats ok. I've always watched them, even when
they were terrible (not too long ago). T.O will not help Cinnci....
he is a pariahh (sp)

My team looked flat and out of sync. Hopefully #4 and the receivers got the cobwebbs out and will show some improvement next week.

My Bears won in a losing fashion.

I'm personally glad to see T.O. get some balls his way in Cincinnati. He is a better player than what he has shown the last couple of years. The Bills refused to throw to him last year for the most part even though he could have actually helped them!!

Well, my team is your team so a good result with too many turnovers. Eli did well but the receivers were a little shaky. Impressed with the NY defense today though.
All in all a good game #1 :)

I agree. They did, however, play better than I thought they would. N.O. was flat too except for their first drive..

Re: Week 1 of the NFL

Our Packers almost gave one away... that said, the Lions got screwed. I understand the rule now, but isn't there another rule that says once a knee touches ground the play is over and the ground cannot cause a fumble? I know he did not fumble and to me had complete control and used the ball to get up. Are the officials all Attorneys from Chicago who apply the one obscure rule to that game. What about all the other touchdowns that are run in on handed then dropped on purpose as the player crosses the goal line? :D I just don't like obscure rules. I am not a Lions fan by any means but I rally am not a Bears fan. So in MHO the Lions got screwed.

By the way, My son and I will be at Green Bay next Sunday, any forum members coming?

Once the plane is broken, its a TD, as long as the player has possession. Possession is the key. Still makes no sense, looked like a good catch to me.

This may be the ugliest NFL opening week I can remember. So much offensive ineptness on the field, starting Thursday with the Saints / Vikes, including the Cowboys / Skins, right through the Monday night doubleheader (Ravens / Jets and Chiefs / Chargers).

Chiefs special teams handed the Chargers their *****; hats off to them.

Heck, some players bodies are not across the goal line. All they do is reach across the line with the ball for a "split second" and they call that a touchdown even if someone swats it out of their hand..

I see changes on the horizon at least with the new rule...

The first few weeks are always ugly. Mark my words...

"There will be a team in week four that will be made out to be a super bowl contender and be lucky to end with an 8-8 record".

It happens every year. Usually there is a team that starts 1-3'ish that ends up with a 10+ win season. So hard to tell who is legit in the early part of the season.

Here in Detroit that does not compute{lol} they are all ugly :(:D
That's what was so upsetting about that silly call...this makes {I believe} 21 road losses in a row...'this monkey on our back should of been thrown off'...I can understand a bad call now and then, but this one made/makes no sense at all...our weeks are gonna get longer is my prediction...but can't ever give up hope...luvs me some football, win, lose or screwed over :D

Re: Week 1 of the NFL

Steelers won ugly, but that is what the men of steel are, so it is okay.

The Bears won for the record, but not in reality. I also understand the rule, and by the rules, it was the correct call ... there was no "football move" (whatever that is) before he used the ground to control the ball (really???). By the letter of the law, if that play had been made at the 50, it would have been an incomplete pass. However, the ball only has to cross the goal line, so by definition, do you need to do the "football move?" For a completion, yes, a touchdown, no. But it has to be a completion before it is a touchdown.

This was a no win call. You either had to make a call that was "morally correct" and against the rules, or make a call that in accordance to the rules, but morally wrong. Either way it was going to be bad, and yes, the rule needs tweaked, in my opinion.

Another late game call was the hold on the last play of the Dallas game. All game I felt that there were some late flags on Dallas, but when I watched the review, the calls were so blatant that the officials HAD to call them. When Dallas scored to win with no time left on the clock (I hate Dallas, but had them picked in the Pick'em Contest) only to be called back because of the hold and because it was an offensive foul, game over, I was bummed, but when they showed that it wasn't a hold, it was an all out mugging, I guess that is the way it had to be ... just hate for a game to end that way.

All in all, it was a good week, a semi-predictable week, an ugly week, a typical first week. More will be known about the season after week 2, because teams make the most improvement between weeks one and two. Now that they are getting used to playing complete games, understanding their new team mates better, etc.

Bring on Week 2!
