WEEPING HULL

I have a 1989 2200 Pursuit, and while touching up the bottom paint I noticed three dings in the lower bow and chines. They were very small, 1 inch or less and bearly went thru the gel coat. That being said, they were weeping (slowly dripping) a tea colored water. The boat sits on a trailer and it had not been ran for some time. Also, I have found a few spots of rot under the oil tank and forward under the v-berth. As well as, I have noticed the bilge will hold a small amount of water if the boat is not set with the tongut of the trailer 3' up in the air. The questions is, could this be water seeping thru the hull from the bilge? This sounds like the entire hull would be water logged. Has anyone ever run into this? If so any advice?

Anywhere water comes out through the hull, it goes in. This can lead to a blister that will spread from the damged gell coat through the surrounding fiberglass, causing a small repair area to become larger. First thing first, fix the nicks in the gell coat, then ferret out any other water intrusion problems that resulted from the hull damage.

The weeping of tea colored water usually means rot.

The boat has a cuddy cabin and the access to the inside of the hull is limited. Is there anyway to determine the amount of damage? Should this be looked at by a professional?

Water in the bilge is common for any boat stored outside. Keep the plug out and the tongue of the trailer high.<br /><br />On the dings - Can you get to the inside of the hull opposite the dings? If so describe what you see.

From what I can see, it looks fine from the inside. I don't know if my hull is solid fiberglass or if its a sandwhich construction fiberglass and plywood. I think its the latter, anyway I have noticed places of rot in the subfloor below the oil tank, and up front on a piece of plywood that backs the cuddy wall. The transom feels very tight and I have never seen any blisters or soft spots in the hull. I am putting some money into an engine rebuild and I want to make sure the hull is in good shape. Is there any ofther way to determine areas of rot before its too late?
