How much is the weight differance between a Johnson 115 & a Johnson 150?
I know when I had a 140 it was beleaved there was too much weight differance, the extra 10 hp wasn't any faster.

i found out that you have about 40 to 50 lbs heavier for a v6 Doesn't seem like much but you need to consider the boat and hull

When the time comes to repower I want more power, trying to deside weather to find a 140 or to buy a low hour 150 I know of.The price of the 150 is fair but 50 lbs for only 10hp doesn't sound good. I had a 140 that I really liked. I talked to a Evinrude mechanic he said a 150 weights about 58 lbs more than a 140.

The V6 will have more torque. If you have a heavy boat, that will be an advantage.

Re: weight differance between a 115 & 150

next question is a 20" shaft v4 shorter than a 20" shaft v6 i know the v6 has a bigger lower unit does this push the center of the prop further away from the mounting plate? Im having trouble with ventalating and my boat came with a 150 johnson fast strike from the factory. when I bought it it had a 20" shaft 115 evinrude on it. thats why I want to know. The v4 has a smaller lower unit.

Rated to 185 hp. Like I said it originally came with a 150 faststrike. I know they are physically a larger motor because they are a v6 configuration and the lower unit is way larger than mine. I have a 19'6" Cajun fish and ski. A relatively heavy deep hulled boat. Not sure of the actual weight. But it pulls heavy. Seems heavy to the tires also. It measures 25 inches from the top of the transom to the pad on the bottom of the knotched hull.

The 115 and 150 came in two variations: looper and crossflow. Their weights vary. Which models are you wanting to compare weights on? Also, the 140's came in crossflow and big bore looper styles-big weight difference. A crossflow 115 weighs in around 300, a crossflow 150 is around 380.

Re: weight differance between a 115 & 150

I don't know the difference, I have never had one of these styles. I believe I have crossflows but would not bet the farm on it. I now have 2 1979 motors one Johnson 140 and an Evinrude 115. When did they start the loopers? I need to find out if the length of the "shaft" the distance from the top of the mounting hole to the cavitation plate is longer is the same on the 20" motors. Well that makes no sense, it should be the same,....does the centerline of the prop sit lower on a 20" v6 vs a v4 given that my v4 has the smaller lower unit?

Why not look for a 175 and sell the two you have? For any given configuration (V6 looper vs. V6 cross flow for example), it will probably weigh about the same as the 150. I tend to agree with you if you're doubtful that the change you're talking about will be signficant. Going to a 175, assuming it's about the same weight as a 150, will give you something.
