weight difference between Even 115 and J 150

I have a 1974 Ev 115hp that has seen better dayson a 83 Larson Deep V sport boat. <br />Found a 1985 Johnson 150 hp in good shape and runs fine. How much more weight am I adding to the transom. Boat is rated from what I can tell at 150hp. Is there any formula to verify what it should be? Rating plate is missing and original owner claims it had a 150 hp on when he bought it. Transom is good and boat is solid.

Pst76, go read the board topic "Overpowered?".......We have been deliberating this subject....I think you will be fine with that j150 which weighs about 400 lbs. But there is more to it than that....GoodLuck...BushCat

Pst76 <br />Your 115 weighs 265 and the 150 weighs 380. As BushCat said, read the other topic and use common sense in making your decision. With a boat that is 20 years old, I would make real sure the transom could handle it.

Thanks Bushcat, Have read thru it and found it quite interesting. I agree should be fine with upgrade. I contacted Larson Boats for an old spec sheet on my model and they are going to send me a copy. 115 moved boat around fairly well for sking but only with 1 or 2 passengers on board. 115 rude motor needs overhaul and will probably tear it down over the summer and refurb. Wont hurt to have a spare and I can learn some things in the process.

Boat is in A1 shape completely removed old decking down to the stringers last spring. Had one section of about 16" long and 2" wide near the gas tank that I had to cut and replace with a new section of 2 x 6 cut to fit. Fiberglassed the frame and put 1/2" marine plywood over the whole deck. Then put cloth and resin over the works to seal the whole thing. Floor is probably better than factory. Hull is good as well as Transom. No flex at all or cracks. <br /><br />Thanks for the input guys..
