Cool.

I know the torsion spring type I have would be good for surge break. Just wonder if I should upgrade to electric (over hydraulic) at some near future point (absolutely maxed out my "toy-budget") .

I watched the seller of my 280 backed down a fairly steep (not the worst one yet I heard), kinda faint hearted. . I meant he was okay (his was a 2011 F350 FX4 CCLB diesel). But there was no body there, dry pavement and all the best condition.

I read all the good things about it here. So it's the big plus for sure. But if I keep going for the "best", don't know where I should end. Hahaha. Best boat brand, biggest size possible, biggest/strongest truck power possible, best break set up, best FORUM.

If you want to be able to use brakes on the ramp, electric brakes are an option for WAY less money than E/H

The trailer already has disk breaks on all 3 axles. I Probably just save up. In the mean time I'll see how's the surge goes.

Electric/hydraulic are awesome, especially if you already have discs.

When I got my boat, I was looking for a WDH to take some of the "sag" out of the trucks rear when hooked up (2002 F150). I ended up adding a leafspring ($200) and that worked GREAT. BUT, I'm not towing a 28 footer, only 23. Just something you might want to also look into, even with the WDH. Good luck!

The only problem with changing the rear springs is you still have the issue with the light front end and you have permanently altered the suspension for when you aren't towing. Same goes for adding air bags.

I once towed my 28'er with my dad's old gas f250 and without any wdh, bags, extra leaves, or any other fixes, it towed it GREAT. No swaying, no steering issues, no excessive sagging, no issues whatsoever..... the O/P also has a gas 250 tho it's quite a bit newer than dad's was.....

Nothing against a WDH but honestly, IF it isn't needed who would want to mess with it every weekend.

True. Towing the boat in my signature with a 1/2T Chevy PU...I need it. Same boat with the 04 F150 that I had, I didn't need it.

Hai Nhi, yup thats what I have as well.
They are a great piece of kit for locking the two frames together with a pivot point.
The only time that I removed the torsion bars is when I hauled our trailer over rough logging roads to get into a lake, they are just not ment for that amount of twisting and turning.

Great.

I towed my boat back for about 150 miles (with the F350 diesel 4x4) and it was good, conventional towing.

I'll try out the WD next time to see what's the differrent. Only thing is I need to spend another $170 for the adapter for the boat trailer (from eTrailer.com).

Which one do you guys use?

Depends on your rig.
On my F350 I use it when I tow anything over 10k. I haven't found I needed it for anything less.

I think my rig probably weights more than 11k. I'll weight it out this weekends to know for sure.
