not sure of the year but its a 1500, what i am trying to figure out is the weight difference between a 90hp and a 150?

If those are both older inline 6cyl motors, the weight difference is negligible. Only difference could be in the transom bracket, trim etc.

They both weigh approximately 290lb, with 20" shafts.

Its not solely the weight that is the restriction, but rather the overall safe power limit.

I can't recommend that you overpower your boat, but I can tell you the 90hp cowlings fit on the 115hp motors.

Liability insurance can be an issue with overpowered hulls.

Wicked, That 1500 motor is 60% overpowered for that boat. That is a significant difference.

What kind of hull is it? Some hulls will handle poorly with additional power, some will thrive. Some will be downright dangerous. I had a high performance speedboat with a Merc 1500. Although I was used to driving it, it used to get out of control for any guest drivers, even ones with boating experience.

it is going on a 1978 vanguard banshee mk2, built in fuel tank that holds 30 liters up front, it a speed boat (so they have told me ) i have had this boat for 5 years now.

oh also its 15.5 feet long .the transom looks good and no stress cracks anywhere.

If you figure that your boat is about 1000 pounds, then if you plug in the numbers to Crouches equation, that says your boat with a 150 is good for 73 MPH. Sounds like fun! Sounds incredibly dangerous to yourself and others, but sounds like fun

the guy who i had bought it from had it on a 14.5 openbow vanguard and he said he had no problems with it on his boat? now mine is a speed boat and his was a fish and ski boat. oh damnit i dont know what to do now

IF you do it, be sure not to let any inexperienced drivers touch it.

I run a prop rated 115hp on my 16ft Glastron GT-160 hull (hull rating is 120hp)

That 1500 is crank rated, so say about 125hp at the prop.

Second pic is an example of a very small G3 hull, hanging a 1500 on the back (not mine).

Safety, insurance and liability are the primary concerns in your case.

If I recall,the Vanguard Banshee is essentially a splash of the GT-150 Glastron? That thing will fly (literally) with a 1500 for sure.
