Hi!
I wonder if anyone knows the weights of the 1985 Yamaha 40 hp, the 1989 Evinrude/Johnson 70 hp and the mid 70?s Merc 50 hp. All with 15" rig (SHORT!).

Anyone knows of any good on line resource for this kind of technical data?

Welcome to iboats.

The Yammie will be about 160 lbs, the Jonnie about 240 and the Merc 170 lbs

These are general estimates, short of giving exact model numbers. TNT, etc... will add weight.

This site is ok for rough weights, their estimates on the value are usually waaaaay off though.

Re: Weights of 1985 Yamaha 40 hp and 1989 Evinrude 70

Thanks for the address. Finally a place to find the weights of these babies!

My boat is a 15 foot fibre glass V-hull from 1970. designed to carry a max 65 hp engine. It came with a 1970?s merc 500 which unfortunately died on me.

I wanted to try something a bit more powerful, so I tried on a 1985 merc 80 hp, but it was a 20" model and I had to raise it 5 in... never really worked too well, and the engine is quite heavy.

Seems the OMC 70 hp isn?t that much lighter. The Yamaha is almost the same weight as the merc 50 and has 10 hp less, so maybe the merc IS the right way to go anyway?

Suggestions?
