So for some reason the points i orderd from iboats wouldnt work on my 105 so i put my ford ones back in. after that it started and ran in the driveway. when i got down to the lake it would not even get on plane and would only gain some speed if i left it in a particular place on the throttle. Im not sure what to do.

Did it work before? More info, anything might help?
Compression test?
Does both cylinders have spark?
Then check the fuel system, pump diaphram.

It has 120 psi on all four cylinders. all 4 cylinders have spark. i checked the fuel pump it is fine. i was able to get the boat to plan out if i held the throttle at a certain place but if i tried to give it more throttle it would bogg down.

Re: Weird problem!

Sounds like the motor is flooding out or starving for fuel. Remove your carb and clean it out. Make sure that your jets are not plugged up. Also, clean any fuel screens or replace any filters in the fuel system.

I checked out the carbs and fuel pump everything looks fine. I did discover the points i orderd from iboats must be defective because my motor runs with ford points or the origional chrysler points.

Re: Weird problem!

There is a specification for points spring pressure-- I think it is something like 26 ounces. With the Ford points and aftermarket points you may be getting point float above a certain RPM--then, of course the engine will slow until the points are again operating correctly. Thus your "bogging" and the "sweet spot" on the throttle

The point gap on the 4 cylinder engines is .010. More or less will change the dwell and if the engine has a coil, it will change the saturation of the coil thus diminishing spark. I don't think it is as critical on an electronic ignition because here, the points only signal a transistor to dump the capacitors into the coil.

Yea it was weird because before i messed with the sierra points the boat ran like a champ with ford points. It would run like 38 mph.

Re: Weird problem!

So today i took the boat out with the origional old points installed, it performed well so im returning the sierra points and leaving the motor alone
