weird skeeter hull damage

Hi, I recently got this boat. hull#sted6037j788 Its a Skeeter. Someone had already tried to fix the damage on the hull. It seems that there is a very slick black plastic thing that has came through the hull. Is it a support for the deck? Or is it something that the last guy jerry rigged? The deck is on and I cant look or feel it from the top. Any ideas out there about what to do with it? We understand the fiberglass and resin bit, but cant figure out what it is and if we should keep grinding to get it out. hopefully my picture can help. thank you very much--J

I don't know where this damage is located, so this is just a wild guess.

It could be that you are right and it is something the last owner placed there in their attempt to fix the problem, but it could also be the gas tank.

Like I said it is just a wild guess on my part.

Gas tank is a good guess IMHO. I'd imagine someone hit something with the boat and then tried to do an external repair but didn't feather out far enough....who knows exactly. I can't imagine it necessarily being from interior stress.

after you mentioned the tank it got me thinkin, the black thing is one of the storage boxes for tackle. here is a pic from the inside of the box. the light colored spot in the corner is light coming in. I heard old skeeters were thin hulled but gee wiz. What to do now? Thanks for all the help-J
