Ok getting ready to tear down the exhaust manifold. Shot this pic on my phone.

Looks like I might have two cracks on the block. One coming from under the manifold, and the other, from a spot underneath the manifold about 2 in down.

It feels a little buldged there right on the crack. Would this area be causing major water leakage?

Will take a wire brush to it today after the manifold is off.

Howdy,

Classic cracked block from not draining the block. The 3.0L block frequently cracks right below where the head gasket line is also.

You'll need a replacement block. Remove the drive and engine.

Some shops claim to be able to to repair the 3.0L block but it must be COMPLETELY disassembled for the repair.

A couple of summers ago, I replaced a 3.0L engine with a cracked core using a long block from http://www.usengine.us/mercruiser.html They only gave $200 back of the core price.

Now it appears that they charge an extra $400 for a cracked block 3.0L.

Regards,

Rick
