Weird water pump base problem. With picture

Hey guys, I was trying to throw in my new water pump base today and hit a snag. While I was trying to put it on I noticed it wasn't sliding down all the way. So I pulled it off and compared it to my old one. Sure enough its about a 1/16th of an inch bigger around which is keeping me from pushing it down into the lower. Note, I took the o-ring off before the picture.

After doing some searching, it looks like I have a pre-alpha water pump base. How can this be????

Wow, so after more searching apparently I have a R lower unit. No wonder the water pump base wouldn't fit.

Right, the new base is for MR & Alpha 1 gearcases. The MC-1 (not pre-alpha) thru R, are different engineering. So return it & get the right 1!
