I was hunting in my favorite spot this past week. The spot that I like to hunt is overlooking a big 10 acre pond. It has a small creek feeding it. along this creek is a line of oak trees. The deer will use this tree line to cross the open field to get to the crop fields to the south. <br />while i was in the stand I noticed a sqirrel that was collecting acorns like he knew that winter was going to hit tommorow. It would run out and get an acorn, then run up the tree and stash it some where, I think in a hollow limb. then it would run down and while it got to the ground it would run over to the waters edge, turn around and go get another acorn. it did this for about 3 hours. not seeing any deer i watch and counted the acorns (42 in total). I realized that when it went to the edge of the pond it would see an acorn about 6-7 feet out in the water on a log sticking out of the water. It seemed to bother the squirrel that he could not get to it.<br />finally it figured out that some branches hung down over the log. it would climb out the branch and it would sag under its weight to about 2 foot from the log. eventually it got tht most of him and it made a leap for it. it made it no problems, but once it jumped from the small branch it recoiled back up so the squirrel had no means of getting back to shore. it sat nervously on the log for about 10 minutes then made a leap for the shore. made it about 2 foot, then started to swim for it. It was not about to lose the acorn. all you could see was the acorn, ears and its nose sticking out of the water. <br />by this time i was out of breath laughing so hard. never would i think that i would see something like that happen. then all of a sudden the water exploded and the sqirrel was gone. I though did that just happen. It seemed as if a largemouth bass just ate the sqirrel. I kept looking for the sqirrel to surface, but after about five minutes, I knew it really happened.<br /> I sat there in the stand puzzled at what happened. then something caught my eye, it was a large black shadow swimming around the log. I turned to get a better look and saw what appeared to be a large fish. just then a Bass, what looked to be about 10-12lbs surfaced by the log, swam up to the log and dropped another acorn on top the log.
