i have a 17ft mckee, powerhead fresh running evin 3blade 21 pitch
cav plate bottom of boat . it only pulling 4400 .
but i cant trim up because of porposing, when i trim up to gain rpm it starts
bouncing .no jack plate boat slightly overrated hp getting a lot of bow lift
before planeing have 4 blade 19 should i try it ,or get some smart tabs first and see if i can stop porposing .then trim up and see where im at and prop from there ,i will run the four blade tommorrow as test but any info on set up would be great this hull is 17ft mckee 1978 clasic style any suggestions on how to get my rpm right . but i believe i will need the tabs
to get my bow down so i dont have to shoot it up on plane
ps the motor tuneing is on the money but my tach may be off it was timed in tank at 5000 that why im wanting to know im at 4400 in water ,maybe because he could trim it up because it wont porp on the trailer
the guy that did my jetting and tuneing is really good with these motors
and i saw it hit 5000 in the tank being timed ,but 4400 on water
also excellent comp numbers and boysens with jet work
perfect link and sink? thanks all

Benny,
Good to hear you are back on the water.

You did not say what your speed was at that RPM. Hard to tell what is really going on with out all the numbers. See if you can borrow a shop tachometer from your buddy and confirm your tachometer is correct. Find a GPS if you don't already have one and post your numbers.
Prop/Slip calculator puts you in the low to mid 40's, am I close?

Then:

If your A/V Plate is flush with the bottom, I would be inclined to raise it up a hole or two and maybe more if it is responding (favorably) to the adjustment. Just keep an eye on your water pressure and handling.

I would Max out your current setup before changing props and/or adding tabs. Only change one thing at a time ie prop or add tabs or ......

Let me know if I can help you any.

Benny,
If your A/V plate is running under the surface when on plane @ WOT, it will help to raise the motor. I like to have the A/V plate at or above the surface (in general for my applications). You may also benefit from some setback, with setback you can raise the motor even more.
